Amnesty International USA Guantanamo Bay Cell at RNC
7TH STREET AND WALNUT IN ST. PAUL
As our nation prepares to elect our 44th President, we affirm that regardless of political party, the next Commander and Chief must exemplify a comprehensive application of international justice, ensuring true and lasting security.
The recent conviction of Salim Hamdan by military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay serves as a reminder that after over six years, hundreds of individuals remain illegally detained by the United States government. Guantanamo Bay symbolizes the US government’s disregard for international law in its counter-terrorism efforts. It is one part of a wider system of indefinite and secret detentions, enforced disappearance, renditions and torture and other ill-treatment. To increase awareness and action regarding these injustices, Amnesty International USA has conducted a nation-wide "Cell Tour" which includes a replica of cells used at Guantanamo Bay Prison.
AIUSA will be present at both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions in St. Paul and Denver. If you are in the Twin Cities, please stop by our "Counter Terror with Justice" cell replica during the Republican National Convention on September 1-3 between 9:30AM and 7:30PM.
Also, please join us at our launch event with AIUSA director, Larry Cox on August 31st.
