Tues. Jan. 20 Courtwatch Update: More Hearings; Carpool Leaves MPLS 8:30am

01/20/2009 08:30

The Wall 7 (people arrested on Wall St. on Sept. 1) are very likely to begin their trial tomorrow morning. Their lawyer has asked that we pack the courts to show our support.

Cheri Honkala from the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign has a hearing schedule tomorrow as well. She is being charged for her organizing work at Bushville on Harriet Island during the RNC.

Christina & Karen were charged last Friday with second-degree assault after authorities identified them as participants among a group of protesters that threw a large metal road sign off the Marion Street bridge on Sept. 1. They turned themselves in on Sunday morning and were released on bond late last night. They'll be appearing before a judge tomorrow.

Both the trial and the hearing begin at 9am at the Ramsey County Courthouse (15 W Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul). Christina's & Karen's appearance is at 1:15pm. Someone will be in Room 130 to help direct you to the courtroom of your choice.

NEED A RIDE? OFFERING A RIDE?
Meet at Seward Cafe by 8:30am tomorrow morning to carpool.

Come support the RNC arrestees! The days of direct action are over, but the legal support work has just begun. People are going up before the court and the state to face their criminal charges for expressing their dissent during the RNC. We need a strong showing of community solidarity in the courtrooms to support our friends and provide a deterrent to judge's behavior. Having many people present at the upcoming hearings is an effective way of challenging the political oppression of the RNC protesters. Come out and show your solidarity!

Food and drink are not allowed in the courtroom and all supporters will have to pass through a metal detector (no guns, knives, or scissors are allowed past security). While in court, supporters must remain silent and will not be allowed to carry signs through the security station; the strength of our collective presence will send the message we need to send.

If you are interested in doing court watches, you must contact rnccourtwatch@gmail.com for information you will need in order to be a court watcher.
