16 MINNESOTA GROUPS TO MN CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION: REPROCESSING OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE FROM PRAIRIE ISLAND, OTHER REACTORS “NOT A SOLUTION”

MINNEAPOLIS, MN.///September 30, 2009///Minnesota’s Congressional delegation is hearing today from a diverse group of 16 Minnesota organizations – including Clean Water Action, Environment Minnesota, Sierra Club North Star Chapter and the Minnesota Peace Project – that strongly oppose any effort to open the door to the reprocessing of radioactive waste from Prairie Island and other nuclear reactors when Capitol Hill considers climate and energy legislation.

One Year Anniversary and Rally for Brandon Rodriguez

In Hastings, MN on July 10, 2008, at night Brandon was having a mental health crisis. When the Hastings Police were dispatched, he ran into the cemetery behind their house. Refusing their commands and waving a sword, the police shot Brandon several times and died at the hospital on July 11, 2008.

    After the painful event, The Hastings Police rather than addressing the wrongful death and very poor and lack of judgement, Police Chief McMenomy awarded the officers medals of honor for killing him.

On September 2nd, Members of Dakota Oyate reoccupied the land surrounding Coldwater Spring. As Dakota people who consider the spring as essential to our spiritual lifeway and the surrounding land as a part of our homeland of Bdote, we believe that we will be better stewards of the land than the United States has been. This is evidenced in the fact that the site is abandoned, littered with dilapidated structures, and the soil is polluted.

On Tuesday September 2nd, Members of the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires) of the Dakota Oyate reoccupied Coldwater Spring and the surrounding land. The Coldwater Spring site is an abandoned property of the defunct Bureau of Mines. RNC Bike Space - Opening Night!

Come check out the new Bike Space created to work on and provide bicycles as an alternative transportation option during the Republican National Convention in early September and beyond. We intend to have hundreds of bikes available in the weeks leading up to the RNC and carry the energy over for a community bike shop after the RNC is dead and gone from this land. On Monday at 6 PM, come watch STILL WE RIDE - A film about the Critical Mass ride that took place during the 2004 RNC in New York.
