 About the only thing Fong Lee’s Family and the Minneapolis Police agree on is that Fong Lee was shot and killed by Officer Jason Andersen in July of 2006.

Dangers and Downsides of Minneapolis’ New Online Police Feedback Tool

Last week the Minneapolis Police Department announced a new, easier way for community members to submit feedback about their officers online. Users can now submit both complaints and compliments via the internet. However, many are questioning the positive aspects of this change.

 The MPD fails to clearly inform users of what can be done with the information they choose to submit. For example, the so-called False-Reporting Law is not mentioned on the online form.

Given the lack of formal police accountability mechanisms in the Twin Cities Communities United Against Police Brutality is starting off the new year teaching the community how to document police conduct, which will allow us to hold police accountable ourselves. Documenting police conduct is a completely legal activity but the documentation only has value if it is done correctly. Join to learn about your rights and how to capture police conduct on film and by other means.
