Political Prisoners' Rights Activist Visits Twin Cities from Palestine

This week nearly 70 people packed into a classroom at the University of MN to hear a presentation from Ala Jaradat, the program manager for Addameer, a Palestinian prisoner support and human rights organization in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. Jaradat was in the Twin Cities for 2 days as part of a national speaking tour to raise awareness about the plight of political prisoners in Palestine, and the specific practice of administrative detention where Palestinian detainees can be held indefinitely without charge or trial.

Over 750,000 Palestinians have been arrested by the Israeli government since 1967. Of the 3.8 million Palestinians currently living in the occupied territories, nearly 35% of them have been arrested by Israeli officials at least once. Since the majority of those arrested are males, it’s estimated that 70% of Palestinian men have been held prisoner by Israeli security forces at some point in their lives.

Minneapolis Activist and Artist Falsely Jailed! Support AC!

Please help get a Twin Cities artist and activist out of jail!

Our friend, Raymond Merchant, aka AC, father of two, Hip Hop artist, and
community organizer in Minneapolis was recently wrongly arrested in
relation to a robbery in South Minneapolis to which he was no party.
Missing for several days, friends became worried when Raymond failed to
arrive to a show he was scheduled to perform at. After contacting his
family, it was confirmed he had been abducted by police just blocks from
his home while out for a walk.

Noam Chomsky on the Cuban 5

Chomsky was interviwed by Radio Havana Cuba on the eve of the 11th anniversary of the arbitrary arrest and detention in Miami of Cubans Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, who after a legally flawed trial in Miami District Court, are incarcerated in US prisons for infiltrating anti-Cuba Miami based groups of terrorists with the aim of defending Cuba against US based terrorism. As Professor Chomsky says in this interview "They weren't criminals. They were heroes".

Grassroots support seen as key to July 28 Peltier parole hearing

Leonard Peltier, America’s most prominent political prisoner and a symbol of indigenous resistance, is up for parole this month. Having served more than three decades in prisons, Peltier is subject to mandatory Parole Commission regulations stipulating that federal prisoners are presumed eligible for parole after 30 years, at least in the absence of severe prison infractions or threats to reoffend.
