Nigel Parry: From St. Paul to Pittsburgh: Citizen Media is Not a Crime

Twin Cities Indymedia volunteers (<--- that could be you!) are travelling to the upcoming
G20 summit and resistance in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Just before the summit in which leaders of 20 wealthy nations will unaccountably make economic decisions affecting billions of people, Pittsburgh will also be host to a major coal industry conference.  And throughout the week, climate and economic justice activists from across the country, including from Minnesota, will seek to upstage the official story through marches, educational forums, tent cities, a climate camp and other tactics.

Those of us in the steel city will be regularly sending back photos, video and written reports about the real story--the one outside the David Lawrence Convention Center.  Check back to this post September 20-27 or to
Pittsburgh Indymedia and G-Infinity Media at IndyPGH.orgStream the live G-Infinity radio broadcasts throughout the week, and follow @g20IMC or #g20IMC on twitter.

Are you going to Pittsburgh from the upper Midwest?  We want to hear your story!  Leave your contact info below or use our contact form to get in touch!

Mahoney Sentenced to 90 Days; Will Likely Serve 56

UPDATE: Mahoney was originally denied vegan food at jail. | Visiting info and more

Dave Mahoney - prosecutor Richard Dusterhoft's "poster child of the RNC" - was sentenced to 90 days in jail by Judge Paulette Flynn in Ramsey County Court today.  With four days credit for time served plus good behavior, Mahoney will likely serve 56 days of the sentence, making his last day in jail September 2--the one year anniversary of the Poor People's March on the RNC in St. Paul and two days before the anniversary of his arrest.

Arriving in court wearing a "Defend the RNC 8" shirt and with 20-30 friends alongside, Mahoney put on a sweater before facing Judge Flynn.  Speaking in support of him, attorney Bob Kolstad said that he was "honored to have been chosen to represent Mr. Mahoney," and referenced his close ties family and friends whom he said "are very dedicated to what I consider a valid cause."

Anarchism, Violence, and Brandon Darby's Politics of Moral Certitude

Anarchism, Violence,...by MJ Essex, reposted from New Orleans Indymedia: In post-Katrina New Orleans, anarchist truths found fertile, if toxic grounds to take root and grow. New paths were walked on. Antiauthoritarian principles emerged as important guides for both reconstruction and the struggle against disaster capitalism. A million or more equally important stories can now be told about mutual aid, cooperation, subversion of authority, disruption of state and capitalist plans. And yet Brandon Darby's morality tale has become a media darling, due in no small part to his perfect and full adoption of his role as a state agent, regardless of whether it was official in 2006, or whether the FBI is still cutting him paychecks. We owe it to ourselves to tell these other stories of New Orleans, St. Paul and beyond.

Twin Cities Indymedia 2009 in Review (So Far)

Twin Cities Indymedia has grown a lot since last year's coverage of the 2008 RNC.  After helping produce Terrorizing Dissent, we've begun to expand our editorial collective and coverage of various struggles in and around the occupied land called Minnesota.  As we move through the summer, we hope to expand our reach even further - and, since any Independent Media Center is what you make of it, need your help to do so!

Start below by checking out a selection of featured stories from 2009 so far -- dozens stories from at least 16 authors (via the editorial collective and open publishing) on immigrant rights, the foreclosure crisis, resistance to occupation at home and abroad, and much more -- only a fraction of the content posted on TCIMC in the last 5 months.  Catch up on what you missed!
