Is the Mississippi Drying Up?

Like Sam Clemens, I grew up along the Mississippi. Every few weeks we drove along windy, blue-brown expanses of river, barges, and rusty bridges to visit my grandma who lived across the river in Illinois. I took days off of high school to help fill sandbags during floods, so I remember how we stood on a hamlet Main St. watching the Illinois River flow at neck level just five feet away across a line of sandbags while a dark green Huey overhead scouted for levee leaks. Old white wooden houses loosened from foundations just 150 feet away, their rooftops visible in the muddy water.

Police Shut Down Streets in S. Mpls Searching For Allegedly Armed Man

mpd_squad_car

While biking home today, Wed. Dec. 5th, I was exiting the Midtown Greenway bike trail at 13th Ave and discovered a large police action underway. First I saw a spotlight shining on a home at the end of the 2800 block on 14th, while hearing LOUD, but muffled sounds of MPD instructing anyone in the house to "evacuate". As I rode around the block to ensure and/or be a witness (on my way home anyhow), I discovered that MPD patrol cars were stationed blocking the streets at 3, possibly 4 intersections: 14th & 15th Ave on E. 28th St, and 14th (& perhaps 15th) at E.

Minneapolis Police Beat Man into Coma - Mainstream media ignores it

On Novemeber 20th the Minneapolis Police beat Demario Booker so severely that he lapsed into a coma. There's little detail on the incident because it has yet to be reported in the mainstream press. The most detail  available comes from Donny Allen's reports on the internet:

Anarchist Fiction Anthology seeks Submissions

We are a group of anarchist fiction writers assembling an anthology of stories to be published in early 2013. The format will be either a short book or a hand-bound zine, dependent on how many submissions we receive and our collective energy to raise money for printing costs. We are striving to distribute the anthology for free or for postage. Because of limited space, we can't publish everything sent to us - we will review all material respectfully.

Report on Successful Minneapolis Antifa Action: Disruption of David Irving Speaking Event

On November 16, 2012, David Irving, renowned Holocaust denier and Hitlerite disciple (though he prefers the phrase ‘controversial historian’) attempted to hold an event on his speaking tour, “Hitler and I,” at the Graves 601 Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. The Twin Cities, which has decades of succesful antifascist and anti-racist organizing behind it, was ready for him. In a display of mass, disciplined, and coordinated action, we stood in defense of our fellow human beings.

Pro-Romney Right Wing Judge Rules for Sheriff Arpaio

Arpaio's Police State of Arizona
Arpaio-style Law in Future for U.S. With Romney appointments. If Romney is elected, the U.S. can expect more right-wing judicial appointees like the Judge in the following link who is a passionate pro-Arpaio right-wing Judge sitting on the Arizona federal Bench. Talk about right-wing judicial activism, this Judge has violated fundamental judicial ethical cannons in his blind campaign supportive of Arpaio cronies from the bench. This judge has single-handedly taken the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and ABA Model Code of Judicial Conduct and flushed them down the toilet.

Keep Racist Skinheads out of the Twin Cities

After Wade Michael Page gunned down a temple full of Sikh worshippers in Milwaukee, we have had an ugly reminder about how depraved some people can be.  What became clear in the days after the gunman struck was this man's affiliation with an established white power group, the Hammerskins.
